difran25 where abouts in rochester do you live/boat? I'm in genesee county, but my boat is in livingston county, on Conesus Lake. maybe sometime you could take a ride down to Conesus. Its about a half an hour away from rochester on the expressway/ 490.

    Hi difran25,

Not sure if you'll be able to find the exact same cap (looks like a small strainer?) but this one might screw back on, if not, then you'll need to replace the entire vent,

yes, little strainer. do i have to have a cap on there? the boat is in the water right now with out one. hopefully it will be alright. water shouldnt get in unless it rains. if it does am i in trouble? and do you know why if wont let me fill the gas fast? this happened to my truck one time someone said the vent line was pluged and i wonder if this happened to the boat.

You do need that cap on there or water has a straight shot into the tank. To clean out the vent line you can just use a wet/dry vac to suck anything out. Be sure to open the fuel cap though so you don't create a vacuum in the tank and end up sucking out fuel. Blowing through the vent line will dump anything clogging the line straight into the tank which could clog up your carb filter and shut you down at the worst possible time. Another possibility is that the vent line is kinked or pinched somewhere. If you get into the engine compartment you can see where the vent line runs behind the engine and up to the fitting. You should have the same vent as mine, so I can check for a part number this weekend.

Well, w/o the cap/strainer, water, debris, bugs (spiders like things like that) all have straight access to the fuel tank vent line. You do the math.

Of course. Water in the fuel tank is a Bad Thing.

I'd say you have your answer. Even that little strainer looks to have gaps big enough for small things to get in. Perhaps a small spider got in there and built a nest. This is not an uncommon problem. Not a bad idea to give vents like this a shot of Home Defense bug repellent/killer several times a season to keep the critters away.

I lost mine this weekend... what was your resolution? Where did you get a whole new vent line?

I have had my boat 7 yrs never lost it before... and went gassed up, went tubing, came back to port. Closing up boat, and i notice my vent cap is gone.

Anyone have a mariah they are parting out? Or how I can fix this issue?

    Thanks!

This thread is older than the hills. No activity in way over 3 yrs.
Might want to PM the original poster , but don't hold your breathe. He hasn't been on the site since 11/30/2010.
Probably best to just start a new thread Carolina.
