Reverse problems

1994 241 Dav.

I am having trouble getting the controler into reverse. I can get it there but it requires a lot of effort.

I have had the orginal controler replaced. The cables replaced. It improved a lot on the foward motion but still tight in reverse.

I had the mech open up the stern drive and it looks like thats where the issue is but I am not sure what the cause is and dont know what the next step should be.

The case had no water in there and I could not see any corrosion on the gearing. The cotter pin was tight, but even when it was taken out it did not make a lot of differnece.

Just looking for any ideas.

Thanks

Re: Reverse problems

Sounds like the problem lies between the shift shaft, shift spool, shift crank or the reverse gear. Take a look in section 3B of the sterndrive manual.
