I was having a similar problem that MariahShabah3.0 was having with my boat.

When I would turn the key to the start position the little rubber insulator that surrounds the cylinder would stick to the right (run) position and hold the key in the start postion. So I would have to "flick" it back to the run position and everything would be ok.

When I go to start up my boat now, I make sure that rubber piece is rotated towards the left side of the cylinder before I try and start it.

Think about a clock, and pointing to 11am. Run postion being around 2pm. I still have to put some lube so that rubber piece slides better.
