Re: Wobbly Captain's Chairs '99 182 Shabah
I have the same problem on my Diablo, took out all the screws (long stainless wood screws) that held the base down, filled the holes with good wood glue then installed the screws... it stayed tight and firm for 1 day!
Wish I knew what was under there, the next step may be to take all the screws out again, jam wooden matches dipped in glue in the holes and reinstall but I dont think it will help. It seems as if the base itself under the floor is loose. I'll be wacthing this thread for sure! Best Of luck, Rick |

i would try some plastic anchors i use them for alot of things and they always seem to be real sturdy....

Hi 1999Mariah,
Where is the wobble coming from, the floor, pedestal base or right under the seat on top of the pedestal? |
Re: Wobbly Captain's Chairs '99 182 Shabah
Yeah, I guess I should have clarified where it's coming from, it seem to be just under the seat at the top of the cylindrical piece, maybe a bearing area?

Hi 1999Mariah,
Ah yes, this isn't too difficult to fix, if you have Springfield pedestals, there is are plastic cups (swivel bushings) that the sliders sits on and they get worn out over the years like in the following pictures: http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...wivelSlide.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2.../Swivelcup.jpg Read this thread (click here), it talks about the bushing for the Springfields and if you're pedestals were made by Garelick Mfg Co, what to check for and how to repair it. The link I posted on this thread (post #4) is down for construction but if you have the Springfiels pedestals, all you need to do is measure the outer diameter of the pedestal and you should be able to order the right size Swivel Bushing from any of these Springfield dealers - click here. BTW, my new bushings came with an additional plastic washer to go between the pedestal and the bushing to prevent the top of the pedestal from cutting into the bushing making for a smoother rotation. Thanks for the quick and thorough response! I'm pretty sure it's the bushings you mentioned, I do have the springfield brand pieces, and will be getting a hold of them shortly, thanks again WetWilly.

My pleasure, oh, one more thing... read my thread on what happened to one of our chairs, click here.
You might want to check your seat spiders while you have the chairs off cause you never know what's happening under your butt. :D WetWilly |

unfortunately the play in my drivers eat is between the carpeted ring thats about 14 inches in diameter and the floor of the boat. Anyone seen that problem yet?

Re: Wobbly Captain's Chairs '99 182 Shabah
Hi Rick, this may seem like a silly question, but are all the bolts securing the pedestal to the floor tight, the carpet compresses over time creating more space below the base.
If they're tight, have someone sit and gentley rock in the chair and see if it's the floor flexing. Let us know, WetWilly |
Re: Wobbly Captain's Chairs '99 182 Shabah
Well...turns out my seat hardware is both Springfield and Garelick parts. There were 2 thin plastic bearings inside each seat that I ordered from Garelick and put replaced, this helped a little, but the wobble is still pretty much there, I double checked the tightness of all the bolts, they seem fine, when observing the seat from below the wobble seems to occur on the mounting point (i.e. where the circular bracket of the bottom of the seat sits on the cylinder of the seat post.

Re: Wobbly Captain's Chairs '99 182 Shabah
Maybe its the mix of parts from the 2 different manufacturers. I know Springfield tried to tell me a Springfield spider would fit a Swivel-eze pedestal post and although both said 2-3/8" the Swivel-eze people used a different tape measure than the Springfield people & they wouldn't fit properly.... i ended up buying all Springfield parts & they worked fine.

Re: Wobbly Captain's Chairs '99 182 Shabah
That sounds like it may be the issue, like the garelick spider on the seat doesn't perfectly fit the springfield mount...bummer.
