Default Belt hell!

Ok, so I have been enjoying the heck out of my boat this summer and got it all ready for the holiday weekend last week. I put around 100 miles on it on Lake Tenkiller in Oklahoma until POW! the center belt that runs my fuel/seawater pump on the motor. I was towed in and replaced the broken belt. No matter how tight I got it is howled and squeaked like it was slipping. I then lost the Alternator belt. Being what I thought to be a smart man I went to town and purchased three new belts to replace all of them at once. I had some issue with the alternator belt because for some reason I could not get what I thought was the right size to fit so I got a bigger one. The belt came apart and even though both ends looked like they fit up there must have been one missing. Anyway my heartburn is with the fuel pump belt. I can't get it to quit whining and smoking like it is out of line. My dad suggested the water pump on the motor but I took it too a boat shop and they said it looked fine to them. I then looked at the tentioner pulley and it appeared to be ok except the belt was running on the edge of it which I think might be the problem. I ordered a new one with the bushing and the whole bit hoping that there is a failure there that is not immediately apparent. The only belt that seems to be giving the noise is the center one. Does this sound familiar to any of you? I sure can use some good news about now. I have had nothing but mechanical problems with this sucker since I got it. Thanks for any help you can give....

    Jason,

Check all of the bearings on your tensioners. On older vehicles I've had bad bearings smoke my belts. They can also cause alignment issues. If you are still having trouble I plan on doing some diving at Tenkiller in about two weeks. If I can get loose for an hour or so I'll take a look at it for you.

With all the belts off, spin all of the accessories and rollers by hand and make sure they spin like they should. I'm with J, it sounds like one of them is going bad and causing enough drag to make the belt slip (squeal & smoke).
