Re: Ran into some trouble

thanks Jim, great photo. The carpet that is under the walkthru to the bow on my boat needs to be repaced (it's glued under there-I have no idea why). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

aquaknot - Unfortunately I really can't offer any good ideas. I decided not to do anything with the carpet under the walkway in the bow because i couldn't figure out how to remove it without separating the top shell from the bottom. For me, the carpet underneath was still fine and since you can't see it with everything put back together, I just left it alone. It looks like they must do the carpet install at the factory prior to attaching the top shell. It would certainly be easier for them.

Just curious, how do you know it needs to be replaced?

jimshabah-it needs some attention because when you walk on it, it feels soft or spongy so when I removed the metal moulding at the front of the walkway floor, put my fingers in between the two layers, the carpet feels punky and wet. I think the carpet has deteriated and needs to be replaced.

If you do find a way to get to it, let me know. I wasn't real happy about having to leave the old carpet there when I did mine.
If the floor is spongy, you might have to replace the floor board as well. If that is the case, I can't see how you could fix it without removing the top shell.

I know on my Z222, both the anchor locker and the bow built-in cooler drain underneath that walkway. Maybe try and keep it dry for a week or so and then check it again. If it is still spongy, you might have found yourself a nice little winter project.
