Newbie questions

10 Attachment(s)
This is my first post and I aam glad that I found this site.
I am looking at purchasing my first boat and I think I have founf I nice one to purchase. But I have some questions.

The boat is advertised as a 97 Mariah Talari SE 211. The trailer is painted with this on the side in front of the front wheel. It is a cuddy cabin. It has the 5.7 motor with an Alpha 1 drive. The interior looks amazing. I did not find a single spot or rip anywhere. I have not seen another used boat with interior this clean.

One of my questions is that the badge on the side of the boat says Mariah Shabah. Is this typical? What is the difference between a Shabah and a Talari? Like I said, I'm a newbi to boating and the Mariah brand.

The boat has 212 hours on it and the hull is in very nice shape. I did not see any marks that would indicate that it has ever been beached. As for oprions it has the Captians Choice Exhaust, also has a wiper on the helm windshield. Not sure if that was standard or an option? The owner has it advertised for $12,999.00 OBO. I think this is above the NADA value, but I do not know if the is an accurate value guide. What should I use to determine the value of this boat?

I will see if I can attach some pics. I also have the VIN if that tells anything about the bout.

Thanks for any and all your input.

Tom

A couple of thoughts; Is there any chance the trailer is not the original? Is there any other indication of the boat being a Shabah other than the badge you have a picture of? May be someone replaced a missing or broken badge with the wrong model. Something does not add up. Nice looking boat though.

There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here that have the history of the models so someone will be able to narrow it down for you.

Re: Newbie questions

It's quite possible (actually 'probable') that the trailer is the original to the boat. I dont believe Mariah made a Shabah 211 in 1997 and that was only a Talari designation. You have docking lights which i dont believe were standard for the SE version. You could send your Hull ID # via private message to one of our members (95 Z240 Talari) who has access to the original build & vendor info. If you ask nicely :) he should be able to tell you exactly what boat/package you have and when/where it was originally delivered to.

The NADA guide is exactly that, just a guideline and my personal opinion is that it tends to be a little on the high side particularly in these economic conditions. Have a look thru our own 'Mariahs for Sale' section & do an internet search for that particular model and see what else is out there in the marketplace.

Re: Newbie questions

I responded to your PM before looking at the pics here, so disregard my question about pics, and I apologize for responding to quick. Here's what I think I know! LOL:yes_grin:

I believe both greencanuck & mikeyt are right on. I too believe that this is the Wrong Oval on the boat and that this is the correct trailer for the boat.

Here's why, Based on the Hull ID # it is a 211 SE as advertised.
The 211 SE was a Talari model only.
Mariah made these Oval badges for Talari, Shabah and Jubilee Models. The Mariah script was exactly the same, and the Model name was the only difference. I would guess that they lost one or both of the original Talari Ovals and could only find the Shabah ones to replace them with.

FYI, Your boat was special ordered with Captains Call exhaust, Docking Lights, a Depth Finder, Lay in Carpet and an external Tilt Switch.

Hope this clears things up, and good luck in closing a deal. You won't be disappointed in a Mariah.

Mike,

Thanks for that information. I did not look at both Ovals, only the one that I took the picture of.

It does have all of the options that you listed. I am going to talk to the owner and see how firm he is on the price. It is a very nice boat but I'm not sure that it is worth the $12,999 that he is asking.

Thanks again for that info.

Best of luck! It looks like very nice boat. I would suggest some sort of water test or guarantee on the mechanical stuff....before i spent my money.

Hey.. I have a 1996 Mariah Talari 215 5.7L that I purchased about 4 years ago and love it.. I think I paid about $10,000 for it.. http://www.nadaguides.com is pretty accurate on used boat info and the banks / insurance companies around SC refer to their pricing a lot.. I dont know if it helps any but that site would be a good start..
