advise on boat buy
hi,
i plan to buy tomorrow a Mariah 2001, V8. as i am new to the US i would like to get advice on how the ownership transfer is being done? do you need to go to a specific location to do this transfer? anything else i need to know or ask the seller? thanks. |
Re: advise on boat buy
Which state are you located in? Boat and trailer registration is done on a state by state level.
When you buy the boat, the seller will give you the title for it. Here in WI, if you want your stickers right away, you have to go to a DNR office with your title and they will transfer it to your name. Or you can print out the registration forms and mail them in. As soon as they're in the mail (and you have a copy of them with you), you're legal to run the boat. If you buy it from a dealer, they will help you with the registration process. Congrats on the new toy. :wink_thumbup: |
Re: advise on boat buy
Same is true in MA and NH. In MA you must go in person to register if it is a personal sale. If you're buying from a dealer, the dealer can probably do this for you. It's easy.
Have fun! They're great boats! |
Re: advise on boat buy
thanks for the input.
so practically if i am to pay it is only after he had signed those forms? btw...i am located in Dallas, TX |
Re: advise on boat buy
I'm sure someone from TX will chime in with exact details for you.
The seller only has to sign the title and give that to you. The rest of the forms, you fill out and sign for the DNR. And yes, if he doesn't have the title in hand to give to you with the boat and trailer, don't give him your cash. If he has a lien against the boat, you won't be able to register it in your name until that lien has been released by his lender. You might have to go with him to his bank and pay the bank directly to get the lien released. |
