Running Amp Power???

I started a stereo install today and couldn't figure out how to run the power wire from the helm to the batteries in the rear. (I'm installing two amps behind the flip panel in the cuddy, behind the steering wheel.)

The PO had a crappy little amp that was spliced directly the main power feed,(with a fuse at least) but I think the power demands on my new amps would be pushing it once all the other accesories are on.

So how do I remove the bottom panels along the sides the run it, or have you guys used a wire snake instead?

Thanks!

Re: Running Amp Power???

I'm not sure on your model but my Davanti had cup holders along the side. When I took them out I was able to reach down inside and pull my fish finder wires along the starboard side and up into the helm.

Just a thought.

If you are running a good sized amp(s) you will definitely want some heavy gauge wire and in-line fuse. The negative wire size is just as important for good performance.

Thanks, I'll check that out. The cupholders won't make it the entire way, but it would cut down on snaking it.

Good to bring up the wiring. Most people forget that you need the same pipe in as you do out. I'm running a 4 guage positive and negative leads to the battery with distribution blocks to split it down to 8 guage to the amps.

I did the same thing greencanuck suggested, removing the cupholders to help. :wink_thumbup:

Re: Running Amp Power???

A little feedback for future searches. :D

I bought a $12 wire snake, removed the cup holders, fed a rope forward with the snake THROUGH the forward cup holder, then fed it back through the rear cup holder, tied it to my wire bundle, and yanked it through. Worked like a charm. I also left a rope in there so I can easily pull any future wire.

Thanks for the cup holder tip!

Re: Running Amp Power???

I pulled the panel that is in front of my sink, found a wire that I could pull through then replace, and pulled a flexible sturdy wire through. I ran my Kicker 700.5 in the same place as you have mentioned. I also left the snake in there for future wire or repair mods. I ran a 4 gauge power and ground to the amp and a separate set for the stereo. For some reason all my dash electronics are going haywire with a ground issue. I need to run a bug ground and replace the factory stuff. I am having issues that I have learned are fairly common as corrosion takes hold.
