Default What would you do?

Hello all,

I just got my first boat, a 1995 Z192 Barchetta with the 5.0L and I have been going through her trying to get everything cleaned up. I was going to have the back bench seat bottoms re-upholstered and so I took them apart to see what all that entailed only to find that the wooden bases are pretty waterlogged and could stand to be replaced. My question is does it sound fesible to just recut out new bases then cover them with either epoxy resin or possibly add a layer of glass over the wood so that they can never get wet again? It makes sense to me but I am new to the boating world. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The original material Mariah used was Greenwood XL10 marine grade plywood. This stuff seems to last forever if it isn't exposed to heavy amounts of water. I suggest replacing it with the original material! Glassing or epoxying might seem like it would help, but would probably end up causing moisture problems somewhere else, in the vinyl or in the cushioning material.
