No Power To Hourmeter

Here's a question for someone who is more electrical minded than myself;
just bought a "new" 94 Talari and discovered the hourmeter is not working. It has two wires coming off it. One is going to the "I" tab off the ignition and the other is going to ground on the steering column. I checked continuity on both wires and that is ok but I don't have voltage in this configuration when the switch is the run position. Is it wired wrong?
Thanks

Hi PROPNUT,

It's wired up correctly, the positive lead from the meter should go to the "I" on the ignition switch and the negative to ground. I would insure the connections are tight and corrosion free, especially on the ground side.

Have you tried connecting the red prob of your Volt Meter to the "I" tab and the black prob to the same ground the Hour Meter is connected to and confirming you've got 12volts. If there's no voltage, the ground is probably bad because if the "I" tab were the problem, your engine wouldn't start or run. If voltage is there, disconnect the negative Hour Meter wire and run your volt Meter in series with it to see if you've still got voltage, if not, I would say you Hour Meter is kaput. If it's a Faria gauge, contact them for warranty repair.

Good luck,
WetWilly

I got it figured out. The ground was no good, moved it to another spot and its working fine. Thanks for the help!
