I have broken my skeg on my Alpha One... I considered having it welded butttt Have been looking at a Blackfine Skeg I found online are various websites... My question is.. are those as good as the Website claim to be....?

Nothing is as good as the original skeg. Blackfine's and other such stuff merely cover up a problem. They cause a little extra drag along with a slight increase in water turbulence around the prop. Besides that, the cost of repairing the skeg and buying / installing a skeg cover are almost a trade off.

Send a PM to WetWilly. He did a skeg rebuild which you can find here:

    Hi dfwguy,

Mikey is right, I had our skeg repaired, but if you want a SS skeg fin cover, I would be willing to let it go for a fair price...

But seriously, I preferred having the skeg returned back to the way it was designed for the reasons you stated and because I've read reviews about how the Blackfin kept coming off and of possible corrosion issues with the Stainless Steel skeg covers.

BTW, I edited the link in MikeyT's post to take you to the first page of that thread, hope you don't mind Mike. In post #14 I explain what it cost me to have it repaired.

I think you will agree that having the skeg repaired is the best route to take when you see my skeg's "before and after" pictures.

    Good luck,
    WetWilly
