1996 Z235 Talari cuddy latch

Could someone email me a picture of the latch that is on the sliding cuddy door on a 1996 Z235 Talari? Mine is missing and I would like to try to find a replacement. Also, any suggestions on where to buy one?

I don't have a picture, and I couldn't find one in the gallery, but in the Mariah parts list, there are links to the manufacturers for the latches

Have a look in this thread on where to buy:

Send a private message to fellow member 'Chicagoweb' and see if he will take a pic and send it to you since he has the same boat.

Hi 300sflyer, Great picture!

Could I ask you a favor for a few more pictures?

If you could, I would like (1) a pic of the other side of the latch and (2) a pic from the inside looking out with the latch in the closed/locked position but with the door open so I can see the latching arm, I think it's a hooked piece but I want to confirm it. Lastly, (3) could I get a pic of the part mounted to the dash/deck that the the latch mates to?

Thanks,
WetWilly

Re: 1996 Z235 Talari cuddy latch

More pics.

The first is from behind in the locked position. My hand is holding the spring loaded cylinder "pushed in" so it would resemble what it would look like looked. Not locked, it would simply be flush on the inside, and the pin would be turned 90 degrees.

The second is the lock pin receptacle, on the door frame itself. If you look at the shape, you can see how rotating the pin holds the door closed.

Hope that helps!:wink_thumbup:

Mike -

Mine looks the same... I have the assembly but my keys never worked. So basically I have never used it.

If someone finds a replacement assembly I would be interested in purchase one to!

Do you have problems with the (2) sliders that hold the cuddy door sticking? I have been using a marine grade (wd40) type silicone spray to grease the door for the past couple of years but I am looking for a better solution.

Can't say I have noticed any problem with sliding the door, but then again I have not owned the boat for that long, and not had it on the water yet. The lakes are still frozen here.

Re: 1996 Z235 Talari cuddy latch

Hi 300sflyer, thanks for the pictures!

As for the sticking sliding door, can you or ChicagoWeb tell me if the door slides in a track of some kind and if it does, is the track metal or plastic and is it lined with some kind of felt? Sorry again for all the questions but if it's what I think it is, I might just have an old fashion remedy for you ChicagoWeb... maybe... :wink_thumbup:

Lastly, rssniff, do you still have this black plastic piece on your door or is it missing too? If you can post a picture of this same area of your door, that would help too.

Willy,

Both the top and bottom tracks look to be anodized aluminum. [black] There is no felt or anything similar in mine.

Re: 1996 Z235 Talari cuddy latch

Hi guys,

Well I think I have some great news for rssniff and ChicagoWeb and any other members with the same lock!

I believe I found a near identical replacement in San Francisco right down to the striker/locking plate, take a look at this description and photo:

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...riah/lock2.jpg

Compare the measurements to insure it matches your lock and/or mounting hole, It comes in a dull chrome finish and includes two keys and the locking plate.

The cost per lock is $24.62 plus what ever it cost me to ship it to you.

If your interested send me a PM. (click here)

I'm trying to find the manufacturer to see if there are distributors throughout the US that other members can contact locally for this lock, I'll post what I find out.

Re: 1996 Z235 Talari cuddy latch

WetWilly -

Thanks for the info! I wont be back down to the Marina until mid-April. At that point I will check it out and let you know. My sliding door is bascially this...

There are (2) sets of rectangular boxes on a track the (2) on the top you screw into, and the ones on the bottom you put a peg into the hole. It is a real pain in the @ss to get the door back on the sliders if you take it off. I have to use a lot of lubricant to make the door slide easily, but it does work. As for the lock it looks very similar but I will have to measure to make sure.

Good find!

Re: 1996 Z235 Talari cuddy latch

Wet Willy - Thanks for getting me motivated! I found the lock online and just purchased it.

This is the lock for the cuddy cabin door on the Mariah Talari. It is the Black/Smoke door that slides and locks.

Good luck!

Re: 1996 Z235 Talari cuddy latch

So, the lock fits... But the actual piece that extends out from the lock is a solid circle instead of the (2) half moons top to bottom. So, I just drilled it out to a circle and it works like a champ.

Re: 1996 Z235 Talari cuddy latch

Hi ChicagoWeb,

That's what I figured... the only issue with your new lock is someone can pull the Plexi door away from the frame, disengage the pin and slid it open. The one I located is the same as the original in that the plunger locks under the striker plate preventing the door from being pulled away from the frame.

As long at it works for you, that's all that matters and it was a cheaper than the original style. :wink_thumbup:

I know this is a old post but it might help someone looking for the lock. I found the matching lock....National Showcase Lock C8042-26D | Security Base

Its made by national cacinet lock.
