I added a pair of 6" round speakers on the sides of my rear bench seat. An extra amp and a subwoofer are next on my list, but these made a big difference just by themselves.

I installed a pair of 6" MA8506 Poly Planar 3-way titanium speakers last spring. The hole was too small and needed to be enlarged.

With 120 watts per speaker, I do like the sound. I also installed a new M476 Clarion 200 watt stereo unit.

My guess is you may want to find something in 5 1/2 inch if you don't want to have to do any additional fitting.

    Vacation Dave,
I'm planning to add 6" Clarion speakers in the factory holes (Factory speakers are 5 1/2") so I too will have to increase the hole diameter. I was wondering if you have any pictures of your new speakers and how the grill fits under the side boards/trim. (I'm referring to the speakers located behind the Captains seat) It appears that I may need to trim the top part of the grill to get them to fit flush to the fiberglass and under the side boards. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks, 95 Z240 Talari

    Smile Re: sounds good?

Sorry I don't have any pictures and she still in storage. I try to take some when I get the boat back this spring. I didn't have any problem with the sideboard trim. No additional trimming was needed on the speakers.

I had the speakers and stereo installed by a Marina. I was not very pleased as the new stereo unit did not fit completely tight where the original JVC stereo was. The new unit is a 1 DIN and by measurements should have fit at least the width and height. They said it was longer/length than the original unit. I plan to repair the Mark IV plate and see what may need to be done this spring.

As for the speakers, the Marina told me there was very little room behind the speaker magnet and they barely fit depth wise. Same thing as far as the dimensions. Although the speaker unit has a 6" opening, the depth should have been the same.

I thought perhaps they didn't quite get the screws in the right place. I figured this would need a flexible drill shaft fitting to tighten the screws down because you can't get a screw driver into the right position with the difficult angles.

The trim had to be siliconed in place after they kept popping off while under way with some waves. Due to the curvature of the gunwales, it is not noticeable and sounds great!

Do you still have your Mariah LED center computerized clock working? Mine went out about 2 yrs ago and I wasn't sure if it was the computer chip or LED light.

Thanks for the reply. My speakers are going to be a tight fit also, but hopefully I will be able to make them work.
My computerized info center/clock is still working. I haven't had any problems with it so far. (As I cross my fingers)
I'm currently working to make a stainless plate to support the weight of my new stereo. The plastic face plate is busted and needs replaced but unfortunatley they are impossible to find.

    Cool Re: sounds good?

Good luck Mike with the speakers and Mark IV panel!

Are you using the template from this site to make the new panel? I'm still learning how to get around this site. I think it was Randy that had posted a diagram and plans for a Mark 8 panel back in 2007. I think it's under projects. I may also have one made.

Also there are some good tips on adding a sub-woofer. I may take on that project next year.

Let me know how it all turns out.

    Dave

Yes I am using the drawings from this site for the panel. I already have it cut out and drilled for the mounting screws. Next step is to cut out all the switches, stereo slot etc.
I'll let you know how it goes and try to figure out how to post pictures when I'm finished.
I'm using stainless steel instead of aluminum and trying to figure out how I want the finish to look. I would really like to find the Plastic Bezel and keep it original but I have had no luck finding one.
