85 hours on a '98?!? Wow!!

I don't know what they mean by the trim pump "not engaging". If there's no noise at all, I'd check the switches, wiring, and connections. A 10+ year old boat is bound to have corrosion issues in the wiring. Just make sure the connections have good contact, and trace all wiring before dumping money into a new trim pump.

The water pump could easily be just the impellor located in the lower unit. They are a regular maintenance item, needing replacement every 3-5 years depending on conditions. Check that first. With the low hours, it could have "dry rotted". I doubt it's the pump itself.

....and if necessary, those parts are easily obtainable thru any Mercruiser dealer.

trim moter and water pump

thanks for the imput. Yea she is clean as the day origionally purchased. I will check all the wiring on the trim moter and most importantly the fluid level. As far as the water pump I mean the one in the engine comp hat pumps the water to the sinks, not the engine water pump thank god!!

I had trouble with my trim last year as well. Noticed the fluid was very low, filled and everything was OK, for about a week. Noticed the fluid level low again, luckily it was leaking through the resevoir cap, used a little plummers tape as a quick fix and no more trouble.....still looking for a new cap
