Can't beleive I bought a second Mariah!
Hi guys,
Well as the title implies, I boat a second Mariah. It’s a 94 Z235 Davanti, on a Loadrite trailer. The trailer is a 2003 and is just like new. The boat itself is in great shape, [or will be after a good cleaning] however the engine is in need of replacement. The previous owner did not winterize it properly last year, and it now has a cracked block. I knew this before buying it, and the price I paid for both the boat and trailer reflected it. I will change out the 5.7 Mercruiser motor this winter, [I have a warm shop to work in:wink_thumbup:] and by spring it should be ready for the water again. I will then have to make a decision as to which boat to keep.... The 210 Talari or this one. :D I’m looking at two different sources for a rebuilt engine. Do any of you have any experience with either of these two companies? http://www.rapidomarine.com/ http://www.michiganmotorz.com/ Thanks! |
Congratulations! Glad to see someone up here has some spare money given the amount of taxes we pay. ;)
Have you looked at any local suppliers for remanufactured / rebuilt marine engines? Try the following vendors: Precision Engine Rebuilders Direct 631 Main Street, Milton, Ont. L9T 3J2 ph# 905-878-6461 http://precisionenginerebuildersdire...NEENGINES.html Spurgeon Engines Ltd., (no website) 47 Borrowman Dr, Chatham N7M 5J5, Ontario ph# 519-352-4780 Anthony-Keats Marine http://www.anthonykeatsmarine.com/ 78 Talbot Street E. Wheatley, Ontario, ph# 519-825-4631 |
Thanks for the info! I will be sure to check them out.

Looks like Precision is out of business. Their phone # is no longer in service, and they are not responding to email. Oh well...

These guys might not be the cheapest, but they are local ish if you wanted to drop them a line..
http://www.doublerperformance.com/index.php?pr=For_Sale Located on Hwy11 south of Orillia. There is also Leisure Marine on Hwy 7 in Woodbridge (Hwy 427 and 27) http://www.leisuremarine.com/contact_us.html Sandy Cove Marine in Innisfil... Make sure you document the install as well! We like pics. |
Decided to pull the old motor out myself. Below is a picture of the 6" crack caused by water in the block that froze. This is what can happen if you don't winterize properly!! Strangely enough, none of the brass frost plugs moved at all...

Yikes.... let this be a lesson to winterize properly!!

300sflyer engine replacement
I purchased a 5.7 reconditioned engine from Michigan Mortorz earlier this year. Excellent people to deal with, price was right, delivery very quick. The engine was a exact fit and purrrs like a kitten.

Thanks for the info!
After looking at all my options, I decided to go with a used complete drop in 5.7L Mercruiser engine I found this week, with just 150 hours on it.:wink_thumbup: The price was reasonable too. I will probably install it in the next few weeks, and then fire it up once, then making sure it is winterized properly for the remainder of the season. I'll post some more pictures as progress is made. |
Here are a couple of pics of the engine to go in.:)

Motor looks to be in great shape! Glad you were able to get a good deal on it, Good luck with it, and keep us all updated!
|
Oooooh, that's purtee
Good luck with the install. |
Well the engine is now installed. I fired it up and let it run for 15 minutes or so, and all is well, and it's running great. :wink_thumbup:
Wish I could have taken it for a test ride, but with snow on the ground and more falling most days, thats not happenning any time soon...:( I then winterized it properly, and tucked it away for the rest of the winter. Come on spring! |
Congrats!!! That's a great feeling when the implant fires up and runs smooth :wink_thumbup:
Happy Turkey day!!! |
Re: Can't beleive I bought a second Mariah!
Well I could not resist taking the boat out for a test run yesterday. The boat handles fantastic and the engine ran perfectly. :wink_thumbup: Lots of power and runs very smooooothly.
The wifey and I have decided its not quite big enough for what we really want, so its up for sale. What we really want is something in the 30-34' range with a twin engines and that sleeps 4-6 people. Hopefully we wil be able to find something in our price range. Here is the add for the Davanti Z235. http://www.mariahownersclub.com/foru...ead.php?t=2334 |
Re: Can't beleive I bought a second Mariah!
I had my long block replaced with a Jasper. Good company with warranty. No problems for the last 2 years.
