I have a 1994 Mariah z212. When I bought the boat 6 years ago it had a depth finder in the boat that didnt work right. I talked to the guy I bought it from and he told me it never worked right from the day he bought it. I purchased a Uniden Qt206 with an adjustable inside the hull transducer. It didnt work either so I called Uniden and they sent me a new one thinking it was defective. Nope it didnt work right either. I read the instructions a little closer and it mentioned a core filled floor. First off, does my boat have a core filled floor and if so how thick is it. Or if nobody knows how thick, will I be able to tell where the core ends and the outside glass begins. I want a depth finder but I really dont want a 2 1/2" hole in the bottom of my boat. Thanks

The foam core filled floor isn't around where the depth finder platform is located under the center of the engine in the bilge compartment. An "in-hull" transducer isn't what you need, a "shoot-thru hull" transducer is what they came equipped with from the factory. Mariah used a Lowrance model PD-N. It has to be epoxied in, and if air bubbles form in the epoxy, or it breaks loose, that's what causes the depth gauge to appear as if it's not working.

If you've already got the Uniden unit, maybe you could consider using a transom transducer? It only requires a few small screw holes, and one hole for the cable to go through on the back of your boat (by the outdrive), vs. cutting all the way through your hull to make your existing one work.

Maybe I called the transducer by the wrong name. The original was a puck style that is glues to the floor like you said, but the new one has a base that glues to the floor and you put 4 oz. of mineral oil in the base. Then you slide the transducer in the base with degree marks on it so you can get it level.

My first post here. .. I had the same problem in my 192. The depth finder would keep flashing and would not give me an accurate reading.

With the original transducer, the base (which holds the mineral oil) is attached to the hull with epoxy. With the epoxy loose, it allowed the mineral oil in the transducer base to leak and dry up loosing the ability of the tranducer to send and recive signals though the hull.

Once I shored up the base with new epoxy and filled the transducer base with mineral oil it was fine.
