Have had my Talari Z200 out a few times now this summer and really do like this boat. It is my 4th boat, and I must say, when turning sharp under medium power (worse obviously under max power) I can almost lay the boat on its side. I have a wakeboard tower and can touch the tower sides to the surface of the water, effectively dowsing everyone in the rear of the boat with large amounts of water! I consider myself to be a very experienced boater, so I have never felt "out of control" when this happens, but I must say that it is an uncomfortable feeling. The real problem is when I want a relative or friend to operate the boat while I wakeboard or tube, and have to explain the issue with turning too sharp to them so they dont do something stupid. I have never owned a boat (have had a 18' Maxum, 18' Glastron, and a 17" fish and ski aluminum hull) that reacts in this way. It only takes a second when off plane to dip the side in the water (right to the windshield), and everything onboard falls to that side. I feel if I didnt return the steering wheel off of full turn it would capsize. This happens regardless of load and/or how many people are onboard or regardless of if I am towing someone or not. When on plane she handles remarkably well, but in the sharper turns at speed (on plane) it cuts into the water so hard that it drastically slows the boat and within seconds I am off plane and practically capsizing. Obviously I can correct this situation by not turning as sharp, but with the other two ski boats this was never a problem, and it always felt safe regardless of how sharp I was turning. Now I dont trust anyone driving this boat but me! Anyone else notice this rather obvious difference with the Mariahs?

It's obvious with all the Mariahs, mine does it too, even the large cruisers are known to do it. It's all due to the hull design. The hulls were designed to cut through the water and offer great handling. And personally, I think they did an amazing job! This was before the idea of stepped hulls, which apparently eliminated these kinds of issues.

Unfortunately there's really no cure for it that I've heard of, you'll just have to give some proper instructions to your friends before they drive!

Yeah, I added Smart Tabs for the improved planing speed, better ride, lower planing speeds, etc. I didn't realize it would amplify this issue!!! I can get people in the bow wet!!! But, like MtTalari said, I don't feel unsafe while I'm driving (but I'm sure the passengers think otherwise).

As Chris said, there's really nothing you can do about it (other than the obvious). I prefer the better ride and speed than a minor issue such as this - just take it with a grain of salt. I'm certain the boat won't capsize, a little water spray or quick let-off of the throttle and all's well!

I agree that my Mariah handles really nice at cruising speed, compared to the other boats I have mentioned. And it really does cut through the wake and rough waters waaaay better than the other boats, especially the Glastron (in even the smallest of wakes/bumps it would provide a jarring crash instead of cutting through it). I guess it's a trade off. I figured it had something to do with this boat having much more of a pronounced V-hull than the others. I like that, as it gets you out of the water a little more and really smooths out the ride in the rough stuff. Guess it is something I will have to get used to and accept as a feature of this boat. It actually feels sportier anyway (sort of like a comparison of a Chevy Cavalier and a Corvette. One you can push to its limits all you want and not get into trouble, the other you have to be careful with its limits or you will find yourself over your head in a hurry!). I joke with my friends after a sharp turn that drenched the windshield that that is why Mariah installed windshield wipers! Anyway one more thing to note: when I bought the boat it already had a SE Sport 300 hydrofoil installed. I left it on thinking it can't hurt for planing quicker (it planes pretty fast) but wondered if it had anything to do with the heavy listing in turns. I have noticed recently that if I am trimmed up a little the heavy listing in turns is not as pronounced. The only problem is that when I am doing the "sporty" turning it is when I am usually pulling a tube or the like, and I want the trim down for more bite, so I am trying to find that happy medium. Anyway thanks for the responses guys.

That hydrofoil is definitely part of the problem!!! Take a look at the Smart Tab website here and go to page 6. Of course, this shows the Smart Tabs are better than a hydrofoil while turning, but it doesn't explain how BOTH will be worse than not having either!

Oh well... I still strongly support the Smart Tabs. Overall they're great.

One thing I've started doing is go back to idle throttle as soon as someone falls, do your 180° turn under plane, then hammer down to get back to the unlucky soul crying from such a rough ride. It doesn't take much more time at all, and doesn't requite as much area turning around.

I have to agree with Indy on alot of things.... Except.... I have a hydro foil on my 20' shabah and I love it. It helps with getting on plane much faster and keeps in on plane at much lower speeds which is what I was having trouble with. I will have to say that I don't know anything about the smart tabs. I have read a lot on here and it seems that everyone who has them like them. I might look into getting some of those as well. I will have to say that I don't have trouble in the turns, I do what Indy is talking about with slowing and then doing the 180 and then I get on it to protect the person in the water. Next time out, which will be this coming weekend, I will try this out and see how she proforms. I will let you guys know what I find out.

well i put 6 real people in it at about 1100, gear cooler full of beer and we have to be 1300-1400

I’ve noticed the listing thing with my boat too. I’ve found that it has a lot to do with where the passengers are sitting, if there are more to one side or the other the boat will dip further in that direction. It’s usually to the port side, for some reason my passengers like it better over there.

I am having this same issue with my Talari Z200. I thought there was something major with the boat.
