Steering problems

So we just bought a 1992 Mariah 1900z. Took it out on the lake this weekend and saturday the boat did fantastic. Well Sunday we put it back in the water and there is now something wrong with the steering components. The wheel turns and clicks but the boat doesn't actually turn. Sometimes it will but not often. Seems to happen at lower speeds too. Can someone help?

Thanks

Steering problem

On my Bayliner had the same problem. If your boat has a steering pump, back by engine area separate unit by it self. Check level of fluid in resoviour and mine had a pressure valve on it. It had to have 25lbs. of pressure in it at all times. I had to replace leaky seal at steering wheel.

Ok so we figured it out. There are 4 screws that bolt the steering column onto the rack. 3 of the bolts were missing and the last one was about to fall off. Good thing we didn't get stuck in the middle of the lake. :-)

Thank you for your help. We also checked the fluid and valve. All looks good.
