changing power steering pump
How hard is it to change a power steering pump on a 2001 diablo 180? I noticed mine is leaking but can't seem to find where it is leaking from.

Your leak is probably coming from one of two places. The front bearing/seal or the connection where the low pressure hose clamps to the pump. Most likely the fron bearing/seal.
I just replaced mine (50LX) two weeks ago. Not a bad job but will require the right tools. If the replacement pump doesn't come with a pulley, you will need a puller. These can be borrowed from your local auto parts store. You will also need a flare nut wrench for the pressure line connection as well as the rest of the normal wrenches and sockets required for removal. Most of these are metric. I would also recommend wrench for the large "nut" that the high pressure line screws into. Also, get a magnet on a stick to pick up all the tools and hardware that invariably falls into the bilge. When you remove the pump you will probably spill a fair amount of fluid so I would put some towels under the engine to keep things clean. Good luck Brad :wink_thumbup: |
Thank you for the information. I will attempt this probably over the weekend!
