Anchor storage not for use on a Z model with docking lights???
 

Hey all,
I'm new to the group/new Mariah owner as of yesterday! ('94 Z 210 Talari), and I have an anchor storage question.

When I got the boat, I noticed the front anchor locker door would not open. Appears to be locked from the inside, as you can feel resistance from a mechanism holding it back from opening.
When I asked the previous owner how to open this, he mentioned that the Z models did not have the option to open them, as when it was ordered it had the docking lights installed in there. And putting an anchor in there will risk breaking the docking lights.
A non docking light boat would have freed up that space for use.
Is this true?
I would've thought that you could still open the door though.

The rope holes are there, the hinge is there, the finger hole is there to open it, but it doesn't open? (Since the rope holes are there, I'm assuming water would come up and over and into the holes and into that compartment- even though there's supposed to be a drain as well).

IF it is in fact supposed to open on my Z model, does anyone know how the heck I would get it open?

The anchor storage works fine under the front bow seat, but just curious if anyone knows more about this.

I have a 96 - Z210 Shebah and the front anchor storage opens up fine. I store my anchor in there and haven't ever experienced any problem with the docking lights being in the way. The anchor hatch cover is held closed by velcro.

Thanks so much for the info.
After some messing around with it, a long screwdriver, and rag to not scratch the boat, I was able to pry open the hatch, and found velcro (very very strong old velcro) in the corner holding it down.

I have since open and closed it numerous times, and it's still just as tough. I have to keep the screwdriver handy for when I want to open it, because it's impossible to open by hand.
I may have to think of another way to secure it.

I actually ended up just removing the velcro. I thought it might flap when pounding through waves, but it has never been an issue. If I remember right the velcro was fastened with a small screw.

You could remove the velcro and rig up some sort of magnet to keep it shut.
