Sensor Warning On Trim?

:confused:Was out on our 99 Z280 today on a slow speed cruise and decided to get it into a 20 to 30 mph cruising speed. When we reached our 20 to 30 mph I heard a warning beep that kept beeping until I shut the engine down and restarted it. Did this over again about 3-4 times and kept doing the same thing.

When I had told this to one of the boaters at the Marina he said it might be low on trim oil and before it planes out it might run the oil in the low position. Never checked it yet but was wondering if anyone has had this problem and if there are low oil sensors on the trim or the bennet tabs with warning alarms.

There's a sensor on the lower unit trim pump. Check your fluid level. The pump (at least on mine) is on the port side in the rear. It has a yellow cap on a reservoir. From what I hear, the sensors are a common problem on the Mercruiser warning system. One of mine isn't functioning properly right now either.

The trim tabs don't have anything to do with it. They're completely seperate, and have no sensors or alarms to go off. They just stop working if something goes wrong!

Also check your lower unit drive oil (reservoir is on the starboard side, front of the engine on mine). It could be low and setting the alarm depending on the boat's degree of tilt while under way.

I'm assuming you didn't have a high temperature situation, right?

I would bet dollars to donughts that the drive oil is low. I just had this same type situation about 3 weeeks ago. Very easy to check. Theres a sticker right on the side of the resivoir. Mine is located on the port side near the front in a white resivoir.

Good luck.
