Test boating 1997 shabah 183 se. any advice?
I have a purchase agreement with dealer for 3,000 on a 97 shabah that he took on trade and wanted the older model gone quick at boat show. I inspected hull and engine and trailer all look good. Passed pressure test new looking tubes and belts on engine. Seals look good it’s a 4.3 l. Merc engine. Trailer has new tires and belts. Other than some rips in upholstery everything looks good. I’m really shocked at this boat.
I am a brand new boater this would be my first. Any advice when I go out for the test drive.? Thanks in advance |

Thank you. I did do all of those and looked good. I’m more curious what I should check in water

Check that it accelerates properly, doesn't leak and turns easily from side to side without 'growling'. If there is a growl coming from stern, its likely the gimbal bearing that needs replacing and that means removing the outdrive.
Things like slow speed wandering (which stern drives are prone to do) and porpoising can be easily fixed with a set of Smart Tabs. |
