Default Need help identifying this part

I was changing the blower on my 1997 Talari 210 and found this coiled up back there. Any idea what this is for? Thanks

if Im not mistaken that's looks like the Speedo Impeller. It sits on the outside of the hull alongside the outdrive but far enough away to not be affected by the turbulence. Its sends a signal to your speedo depending on how fast it rotates in the water. They never were very accurate apparently. the data was also used in the little onboard computer to calculate distance and time etc much like a GPS which is why I suspect it was discarded GPS has taken over its functions. pretty sure this is correct please post if you feel otherwise.

Thanks, the boat is new to me this summer. That would explain why the speedometer does not work, I thought there was a pito tube for the speedometer. It sits in a slip, so I will have to pull it out and see.

that little 'paddle wheel' is for the trip meter... should be on your console with a reset button. The speedometer gets water input from the pilot hole on the front of your outdrive at the bottom...Your speedo could have stopped working due to plugged hole..depending on where you boat, muddy/silty conditions tend to clog the opening.

I believe Brent has it right. IF your speedo isn't working then the pickup hole on the front of the outdrive is likely plugged. You can clear it one of two ways. A small pick (or something similar) and work open the hole again or you can remove the tubing line from the back of the speedo and use a compressor to blow out the line (and re-create the outdrive opening) from the speedo end. DO NOT blow out the line towards the speedo or you will be replacing that item also..

    Just curious
Does the tube to the speedo fill with water all the way to the guage or does it just cause pressure to make the guage work.

It should not push water to the gauge, only pressure is needed so it is mostly filled with air if it is still sealed.

Don't most drives also have a quick connect for the speedo when you are replacing the impeller. My Alpha does and if you have no idea if/when that has been done you should and that's a great time to clean out and test the tubing back to the speedo.
