Any ideas?

Hi fellow Mariah lovers,
I have a 1994 Z225 which is my pride and joy!
She’s a bit of a project, I’ve been working on her since the end of 2016 and am steadily getting her ship shape 😀
The engine is now running sweetly after the replacement of the fuel pump, starter motor, alternator and a set of Drive belts.

I’ve also got a lot of the electrics sorted.
However, I’m stuck with a couple of problems.
1. My Lowrance 3500 displays E- and I can find no reference as to what this means.
2. Above the Lowrance, is a mechanical digital counter, see attached photo. Anyone know what it’s counting? It’s not an hours run, ‘cause I’ve got one of those and it ain’t working either!😂😂

Any info more than welcome

Re: Any ideas?

The counter at the top is an hours meter. Probably been disconnected. Follow the wiring.

The Lowrance problem likely means; a) the unit is pooched and needs replacement, b) the transducer isn't working or (assuming it is mounted on the floor in front of the engine) c) the transducer is no longer epoxied mounted to the floor. You might find a manual for it here on the site but they are easy to replace and it doesn't have to be a Lowrance.

Hi mikeyt,

Many thanks for your response.

I did wonder if it was an hours meter, but why fit 2 and why give it a Reset button?

I had hoped to find a troubleshooting guide for the Lowrance, but have failed so far.

I did contact Lowrance in the UK, but they were no help at all.

Have a fabulous weekend

I believe the counter at the top is an odometer. Do you have a paddle wheel mounted on the transom? If so that is the input to the odometer. Few of them still work.

Hi mike & Steve,

Many thanks for your input. I can’t think why I didn’t think of the Odometer 😩😩
Presumably, a paddle wheel will rotate, generating pulses, which bumps the counter..
The obvious question is, where is the paddle wheel?
It’s been a few months since I had her out of the water, but I have no memory of anything even remotely paddle wheel like!!
Anyone got a photo?? Google doesn’t seem to know anything.

Re: Any ideas?

on the lowrance depth finder issue, mine was doing the same thing... it was the transducer 'puck' that is a through the hull. Mine had come loose and was just rolling around in the engine compartment. Once I repositioned it back in its spot, it worked again. As noted, they can come loose from their epoxy set.

I have a 98 Z210 and it was located sightly left of center board, right under the engine on the bottom hull.

Here is a picture from an earlier post about Smart Tabs. You can see the paddle wheel sender just to the right of the tab. The location of the paddle wheel on your boat may vary left to right.
