Default My method of removing the outdrive, B3

I thought I would share this with the crew here. I want to do the yearly checks and maintenance on the outdrive myself, but the boat is on a lift and it is not convenient or cheap to put it on the trailer for me. So I improvised a method of removing the outdrive at the lift/dock. It involved a couple of 2x6's and some screws, and cables for support. The board were placed just wide enough to support the drive under the vent plates, like with most outdrive stands. But they are much longer so I could slide the drive back. The dock had already been notched out to allow room for a tilted drive, so part of this was already done. I fastened the ends of the boards together with short cross boards to keep them from separating. I put two cables from the boards to an overhead beam just to make sure they boards would be steady and not tilt down under the weight. Then I just followed the procedure for removing the drive. it went very quickly and easily. My inspections revealed no issues with the gimbal bearing, u-joints, or seals or anything else. Putting the drive back was a bit harder, keeping the drive shaft elevated while I slid the drive forward, making sure the shift cable was aligned and putting on the mounting nets. Some fine tuning of the lift height was needed to align it. Once the supports were in place, this took about 2 hours total. I will store the boards and cables for next year.
