Need Advice My 1997 Talari Z219 . 5.7l Bravo III

Thanks for your time . Bought this craft last year with 23 pitch stainless
Double screws ... max is 41 mph @ 3000 rpm ...
What should I be running ? To get 4500 rpm and more mph ...
I'd prefer aluminum as cheaper ... ?

We just had a similar discussion in another thread about prop size and RPM's. If the boat came with 23" props then you would assume it achieved max RPM's with those props at some point in it's life. Did this just start or was this a limitation when you bought the boat?

The 5.7 motor you have in your Talari should be putting out close to 300HP which should be plenty of power to turn those props to 4800 RPM's. I don't think you have a prop problem as much as something is limiting the engine's ability to push those props to the desired RPM's. Check your tach first as 3000 sounds pretty low even if there were a problem.

Before you go buy new props check some things to determine what else might be going on. Verify the tachometer, check your outdirve trim position when underway, check the timing etc. If none of these work then things get messier including water in the hull or a weak engine. In case nothing else works, check out this topic in another forum:
https://www.thehulltruth.com/boating...-3-000rpm.html

It is a long topic (skip to the last two pages [8 and 9] if needed) and the problem has not been completely verified to be fixed at this date, but he definitely had a blocked exhaust system caused by the disintegration and release of both exhaust flappers into the upper part of the drive, blocking the exhaust path almost completely. The poor guy is getting advice from too many directions and has been trying to respond to all suggestions at once. Apparently you can check for the problem by just removing both exhaust risers and inspecting the flappers. Getting any loose ones out is another story.
