211 drain plug

Hi Everyone, I just purchased a 1998 211 cuddy with 4.3. I noticed a lot of water when i removed the drain plug however the engine bay was dry prior to removing the plug. Is the drain connected to the engine compartment or below?

My Shabah is a bowrider of course, but there is a drain hole coming from the compartment housing the gas tank into the engine compartment. I believe the bow area drains under the floor and through that drain hole. In theory water could accumulate in that area.

Was the boat at a different attitude when you checked the engine compartment? Maybe water ran back to the drain when you raised the bow?

Thanks, heres the thing, i put her in the water last week, then pulled her out, while on traler at noat ramp with a slope i checked engine compartment where bilge pump is at it was dry, i pulled plug and drained 3 to 4 gallons of water.

I onle can verify only 1 bilge pump in the engine compartment, cant figure why i can drain hidden water when the bilge pump is dry?

Yeah doesn't make sense. I wonder if the boat was on such a steep slope (boat ramp) that the water was sitting against the transom and you couldn't see it under the engine. At least on mine, the bilge pump sits towards the front of the engine so in theory water could be at the very back (stern) of the engine compartment and not be visible under the bilge pump.

I can't imagine the plug opening being lower than the bottom of the engine compartment but hey I'm just a dumb IT guy:)
