It controls the red readout above the guages. Sets the clock. Shows tripnmileage etc. Trip is run by the wheel on the transom. Not accurate at all. Clock works till you turn off the battery [emoji3]

I never use mine. I tried the trip just for fun. 4 miles up river on gps. 42 miles on trip. [emoji41]
