No front propulsion

Was cruising about 30 mph today and lost front propulsion on my duo prop Z302. Reverse works but no forward. Looked at linkage and seems fine. Just won't go forward. Any ideas?

Re: No front propulsion

Are you saying you lost propulsion on only the front propeller? If so, I suspect the propeller hub first. Linkage wouldn't have anything to do with that since the props are driven by fixed twin gears in the lower unit.

Or do you mean there is no forward action on both props?

Re: No front propulsion

Stopped going forward. Reverse no problem. Both props turn. I thought i spun hubs but not the issue.

Re: No front propulsion

You say you checked the linkage. Did you inspect the intermediate cable connection at the linkage assembly on the engine?

Re: No front propulsion

I checked it at the throttle and the outdrive. I inspected the cable and it seems ok.

Re: No front propulsion

So you checked the connections of BOTH cables, the one from the control to the top of the engine and the other one from the top of the engine to the outdrive? I am no expert by any means, but I think the next step would be to remove the gearshift housing cover from the outdrive and watch the shift fork move when the control is moved.

Re: No front propulsion

One cable goes from shifter to outdrive. Cable moves outdrive mechanism in both directions it seems. Im guessing it might be something in the outdrive...

Ignore this MerCruiwer stuff : So you are saying that there is only one shift cable and it goes from the shifter control beside the driver seat all the way to the front of the outdrive unit??? I have never seen such a thing. Most have the shift linkage assembly mounted to the starboard side exhaust manifold. So you don't have the attached image part on your engine?

p.s. Is your perhaps a VOLVO Duoprop and not a Mercruiser Duoprop?

Update: now I see you have the Volvo/Penta. Never mind, I know nothing whatsoever about that outdrive

Re: No front propulsion

LOL I don't either. I just know its one cable and it shifts on the outdrive in reverse or forward. Hopefully its and easy and inexpensive fix... :eek_animated: Thanks for the replies!
