Winterizing FAIL

Well, I was very excited to get my 250Z LE in the water, started it up and was not happy to see water gushing from the engine. I found that one of the two brass freeze plugs were popped off the block on both sides.

I put them back in and did not find any leaks after several minutes of running. I plan to put it in the water and put some load on it.

Can anyone advise me on other failure modes and what to look for? Obviously, somehow it retained water after winterizing, and that water froze and pushed the plugs out. I did not notice any water in the oil after running, but I imagine that would take time to accumulate. Fingers crossed.

No fun. Did you winterize your boat or pay someone? Did the plugs go right back in or did you have to re-tap the holes? During your test run what did the temperature read?

I will be running it tonight on the water, I ran it last night on muffs. It seemed to run fine, no sign of water but I'm curious what internal damage may have occurred that will not be visible. The plugs that popped out are not the drain plugs but the 2" brass pipe caps (core plugs). I was able to tap them back in fairly easily.

Block may have possibly internal cracking. Keep tabs on your oil. It will get milky if water mixes. I would replace the old plugs too. good luck with this!
