Meaning of the names
Original Mariah boat names. I've been doing some searching looking for translations of them. I never knew what Shabah meant until now. It's somewhat amazing what little information is out there about these boats.
The Mariah copyright information shows the translation of the word Shabah to mean Ghost (other sources say phantom) and a general google search seems to point toward the word being of Arabic origin. Other sources point to the word possibly meaning Sabbath and it seems to have quite a few Biblical references. Used as a name it is said to mean One who delights in the holy word. Pretty interesting stuff to me. I couldn't find much on the word Talari or Davanti although I haven't searched them as thoroughly... Jubilee seems fairly self explanatory, on the other hand. If anyone has any input or could correct me on this information it would be greatly appreciated! Edit: I know I left a few names out, but if you have any input on ANY of them I'd like to hear it! Thanks |
Re: Meaning of the names
Davanti is the Italian word for 'front' or 'the forward part'.
Not sure if they took the name from this or that they were thinking of something else... Definition of talari: plural -s an old silver coin of Ethiopia last minted in 1904 https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/talari |
