Stereo upgrade
I have a 1995 Talari 180 with the original cassette stereo. Thinking of finally updating to something with Blue Tooth capability.
Are there any units that are plug and play that don't require that I make cuts in the opening? |
Re: Stereo upgrade
Paul,
It should be a standard din opening. My 98 202 was. I just put a Kenwood KMR-D365BT in. I'm pretty happy with it so far.... |
Re: Stereo upgrade
Paul,
The head units are a standard "DIN" style. Any unit listed as DIN will fit. I placed a Kenwood in my boat 2 years ago and is still working well. I opted not to pay extra $$$ for a marine grade unit since I got it on sale for $89 at Autozone. The unit I bought included a remote, USB, Bluetooth, and compatible with plugging in an iPhone or Android to play music off it O bought a little 8GB flash drive and placed all our music on it. I'm a little chicken to use my phone all day long on the water. Here's what I bought - KMM-BT315U | Receivers | CAR ENTERTAINMENT | KENWOOD USA |

Sweet! Does the install look good?

Re: Stereo upgrade
I just recently installed the Kenwood KMR D365BT like baholtz. The bluetooth between it and Spotify on my android phone works great. It allows you to select the background color, so I use red to match the dash gauges at night and it looks great.
The sad part is that lightning ran thru the boat last week and fried it, the sub amp, the odometer, and the hour meter. So, I'm spending another $100 to buy the same head unit again. |
Re: Stereo upgrade
Found the marine version of the 315 on eBay for $87 and pulled the trigger. I was thinking the same thing about matching the color to my gauges.

Re: Stereo upgrade
I know its not a DIN size (dimensions slightly bigger) but i love my Jensen, good brand! & I'm a big audio nut, I've had Kennwood, Clarion, Blaupunkt, Fusion... and all of those have failed over the summer.

Re: Stereo upgrade
I have been buying audio gear for the boat from www.sonicelectronix.com. I have the six Sony speakers(two in the bow area, two down near the Captains Chairs, and two back by the bench seat), and two subwoofers under the rear bench seat. The 600W amplifier is in the space behind the dashboard up on the bulkhead and I added a cooling fan to blow air into the space. Here's the cut sheet on the Sony head:

Re: Stereo upgrade
Oh yeah..... It comes with a little wired microphone to pick up your voice for the hands free cellular phone connection. That way, the whole damned River can hear my wife telling me what an insensitive selfish jerk I am for leaving her home and taking the boat out (She thinks that the boat is the other woman named Mariah)

Re: Stereo upgrade
Phil,
I'd love to see pictures of your install. Just got done replacing the stock 5-1/4" with 6x9's under the helm. Those are powered by a Pyle 400 watt amp, my fronts are 2 JBL 6-1/2" powered off the deck. I tried to remote switch a Plye 240 amp off my accessory switch to my tower speakers, but I haven't been able to make it reliable. I'm thinking I've got a bad amp. Mounted my amps on the storage side of the cover under the drivers seat... Would love some more bass, but we load the back of the boat so full of stuff getting to the beach - I don't think I can fit anything in there.... |
