Considering buying a 1997 Shabah 180
Has a 4.3, just going to be a family boat to run around the lake and pull the kids and bigger kids around on skis and in tubes. Opinions on this model? The price is $4,000 which seems about right for this make/year. Everything seems to be in good shape. Anything specific I should be checking for or asking about? Anything you can provide would be helpful as I'm new to the Mariahs.
Thanks! |
Re: Considering buying a 1997 Shabah 180
Always look under the hull, feel for soft spots, ive read mariahs went to wood free stringers in late '98 if im not mistaken. Check corrosion on outdrive, condition of seats and interior will immediately tell you if the boat has been babied or neglected.
The mariah hulls are one of the best ever built, its the motor and outdrive that i would be focusing on after the initial hull inspection. For 4000 dollars, if you dont buy it i will! How many hours is on her? 1998 shabah 180 5.7l 350 mag Bravo III |

Thanks for the info. I'm going to head out there now to look at it closer look and possibly buy it. It's at the marina that does the work on it. I know the mechanic too, he said it's a good buy. The owner is selling his cottage and moving off the lake. I'll check the hours and the points you made and take it for a spin!

There is a 'Buyers Guide' sticky at the top of the Marketplace Boats for Sale forum. It should answer most if not all of your questions.

Ended up buying this boat and the hoist for $4,500. Very happy with that price. Had it in the water last night and love it so far! Thanks for your help, now I'm officially a Mariah owner :)
