Electrical smoke smell help
Found the tank sender and removed it to suck the gas out. Drained the fuel filter. Put new gas in with a new battery. Started right up after sitting 4 years. Did a shake down run. Could smell electric smoke smell around the passenger feet area. Just below the glove box. Stopped after 30 minuets. Ideas?

Re: Electrical smoke smell help
Any way that mice might have chewed the insulation from the wires while it sat?

Re: Electrical smoke smell help
I believe the only thing in that area is a speaker and courtesy light. Do both still function?

Re: Electrical smoke smell help
No mice that's for sure. Yes the light and speaker over their work. Nav lights work. My boat has cut in headlights. They don't work. Never did. All the fuse's are good and no hot wires under the dash.

Re: Electrical smoke smell help
Sounds like a mystery. Luckily the smell disipated and so far no harm has come to your boat. Be thankful.

Re: Electrical smoke smell help
Please keep a fire extinguisher handy. Smoke is like sound. You'd bet your last dollar the sound is coming from the front wheel and it turns out to a rear driveshaft. Been down that road of thinking the burning smell is coming from one place and it turns out it was from the opposite side.
Also, is there anyway it wasn't "electrical" smelling ? Where is your bilge pump ? Is it working ? |
