Re: Fuel filter location

Hi... I just went through this fire drill of trying to troubleshoot my fuel system, thinking that I either had a clogged fuel filter or a stuck bee-bee in my fuel pickup ( it works as a one-way valve )....
If you have the Mercruiser (GM) 305CID or 5.0L engine, then you'd also have a Mercarb 2 barrel carb (also known as a Rochester 2 barrel carb with a modified float assy in the bowl).

There is no in-line filter, such as the one that you are used to seeing on a wheeled vehicle. There is a "rock-filter" at the fuel inlet to the carburetor. It has a spring assembly and sits inside the inlet. Take off the fuel line and then the nut behind it. The filter will be in there. There is good documentation on this website for the 5.0L Mercruiser engine and it shows an exploded view of this filter assy.
There is also a fuel/water separator just below the electric fuel pump on the engine's lower left side (facing the engine). It looks like an oil filter but has nothing to do with the oil (The oil filter is in the rear of the engine and hangs down into the bilge area.
I hope that helps, as I am a new Mariah owner too.

Re: Fuel filter location

It depends on if it is fuel injected or carb'd. If it is carb'd it should have a spin off fuel filter/water seperator on the lower left of the engine (standing in front of engine looking towards back of boat) But if it is EFI, then it probably has a fuel filter cartridge that is inside of a canister.

here is a good video of doing and EFI 5.0 liter on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m7qNw1sWcA
