hello, can you help electrical fault 1999 182

Can any one help?
I have an electrical fault on my 1999 182 in has a mercruiser 3.0. The 20amp fuse supplying power to the ignition keeps blowing and i lose all power apart from to the trim switch. I have now replaced thew fuse board as it was corroded and looking pretty nasty !! but this hasn't solved the problem. it only seems to be an intermittent fault but once the fuse blows it keeps blowing. also i have noticed that once the fuse has blown and been replaced the boat will turn over but not fire (start) and the wire from the fuse board to the ignition got worryingly hot. iv read some bits on here so am going to clean up the ground block and connectors tonight and have a look at main mercuiser plug and circuit breaker but any other advice would be gratefully received thanks in advance

Also dose any one have a wiring diagram other than the one in the owners manual ?

Thank You

My five cents worth:
Sounds to me like the wiring might have melted somewhere downstream. So you keep having a short. I would follow the wiring from the front to the rear, Probably runs behind the sidepanels, and use your nose! If you smell burned plastic, you must be close...

The fact that it is intermittend, but once it goes it keeps going might be that it only shorts when it gets hot; the wire expands and than touches the other wire. When it cools down it might just shrink enough.
