Default Anyone shortened their bimini??

Just wondering if anyone has cut down their bikini poles and re crimped them? I am looking at a tower and don't want to spend more money for a new bimini seeing as I bought ours two years ago... I'm sure it can be done, just wondering if anyone has some pointers or suggestions! Thanks y'all!

Trimmed mine down about a foot last year. I got a universal bimini and installed it. Looked like it was made for someone that was 8 feet tall. It looked rediculous, so i trimmed it down. My poles are aluminum so i used a small tubing cutter. Instead of trying to recrimp the fittings to the poles, i drilled a hole on each side and put a couple of pop rivets in. The shorten the pole length, i cut the main poles and installed the top. With a helper holding it straight, i measured the distance from the mount point to the top where the other poles would attach, then cut them. It wasn't hard to do. Now my top is about 6 foot up from the floor and looks a lot better!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429891140.091236.jpg

Welcome and thanks! Its not hard to do, just kinda cumbersome. Only problem I've had is with the stainless brackets that mount on top of the windshield frame. They will rub through a boat cover in no time. Bought a new cover last week and took it to my upholstery shop where they sewed in some real heavy reinforcements. I situated the bimini top to where i could lay it down flat against the sun deck for storage with the cover on. Worked out real good
