Interior Side Panel Removal
Does anyone know how to remove the interior side panels or know of an info source for the same? I want to replace the carpet with vinyl in my 222.
Thanks |
Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
I don't know if is the same, but on my 96 252 the panels lift up and off. There are no screws holding mine on, just aluminum L brackets.

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
Dave,
Thanks for the response. It sounds almost too simple to be true but I will give it a try. This seems like such a common matter that I'm surprised I didn't get several responses and maybe I will over the weekend. I know this is a knowledgeable group who love these old boats. Tom |
Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
On our '97 Z255, the upper side panels lift up and off like Dave mentioned and the lower carpeted side panels that run along the floor are screwed into place. You have to hunt around a little to find the screw heads buried in the carpet.

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
Hi I have a Z222 2001 I read somewhere that there are screws under the buttons if you pop the button covers off you will see them I have the buttons on mine But I have never tried to remove ther panels YET then like everybody else said you just lift up and remove the panels
Hope this helps Regards Bill |
Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
Thanks for replies and I tried lifting front, rear and center with all my strength and neither side would budge even the smallest amount. I think I'm going to just lay the vinyl right up to the carpet on the side panels and maybe, with any luck, I can even force the vinyl under that carpet so I have a nice finished edge.

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
I have just redone my 2000 222 and there is screws at the top of the panel that you need to remove

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
So if I locate and remove the screws at the top, will the side panels just lift out?
|
Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
There pretty hard to get out of there ,Takes a little maneuvering to get them out but yes mine came out after I removed to screws. You will also need to remove the seat post to.

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
Thanks Busby. I probably won't get to this until my son (the assistant) visits in late June but I will look in the next few days to see if I can locate the screws.

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
Your welcome! I have completely gutted the inside of my boat and done everything myself. It was fun and was a great winter project beats paying a ton of money to have someone else do it. Good luck and have fun. If you have anymore questions just ask.

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
Lower panels have screws hidden in the carpet if it's like my 97 talari. Uppers on mine lift out. Mine is gutted as I type.:(. Sorry, but don't see the fun:). Just got done glassing new floor. Good luck. Obtw, if you are trying to remove bottom, try GENTLY prying top of panel out and looking through gap for screws then dig through carpet to find the head

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
I just removed the padded panels up in the bow section of my '98 202 and my son and I tried to remove the longer side panels from the main cabin. We popped off the screw cover buttons (need to find more of those) and unscrewed them. I thought that the only thing left holding them is the L brackets and we could lift them off. No dice... They wouldn't budge. I wonder what I am missing?
I have two 1/2" thick 4' X 8' white King Starboard sheets so I can replace my sundeck/engine cover and my bow seating pieces. I thought that I have enough to replace those long padded panels if I could get them off. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a3e0a11eef.jpg 1998 202 Shabah 5.0L Alpha 1 |
Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
There are screws behind the buttons that go into the fiberglass. Also, they are burried in the carpet at the bottom.

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
I don't know if your panels are like my old Z250, but there were also screws located underneath the decorative vertical "straps" of vinyl.
http://www.mariahownersclub.com/gall....php?n=406&w=l Never could confirm if these were originally done at the factory, or something the previous owner had done, but give it a try, pull them aside a little bit and see if you can see holes underneath. If so, then that's what might be holding them in place! I was able to fully remove my panels after removing these screws. |
Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
I wish my interior looked like that.... No, we don't have any vertical straps...

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
I found the screws under the vertical straps just like ShabahZ250 said. Mine have pulled out on one area and I need to repair the damaged holes. I will try to take some pictures for you Friday if it will help.

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
Thanks for the photos but mine isn't a Z202.... I just have the basic interior. No cool speaker nacelles, no vertical straps....

Re: Interior Side Panel Removal
Doesn't mean you can't pimp that ride with your interior overhaul :)
