oil in bilge

good day

i put my 5.7 merc up on plane the other day and then i heard an internal grinding noise for approx 3 seconds and then it quit. engine wont move now and i had a bilge full of oil. when i cleaned the oil out of the bilge i found one of the oil pan bolts, it had been sheared off.

i am planning on pulling the engine and looking for advice on this and what might of gone wrong in the engine.

thanks,

Can't tell you exactly what went wrong, but it was major. You may have thrown a rod or had a bad bearing but the sheared bolt and oil mean you blew the pan off or put a hole it in which means major engine repair. You'll have to pull it and see how bad it is.

Oil in the bilge is the least of your worries. I suspect catastrophic engine failure.....

OUCH! Pieces flying off is never a good thing. Hopefully it is (relatively) minor
