3.0 Merc alternator install help...

Hi everybody, I took my SX18 out on Thursday and unfortunately the alternator went out on me. I just replaced the starter 2 weeks ago and this was my first tinme out on the water since, so this pretty much sucked. Anyway, does anyone have instructions or a video on how to replace the alternator? I couldn't find one on youtube or on here. I'm pretty handy and so far have done all of the work on my boat myself, but I'm just not sure where to start here.

Thanks,

Rich

Not sure on the 3.0 but disconnect battery is always first then disconnect the wires from the back of the alt, then if you have a tensioner take the belt off, remove bolts holding alt. Now just do everything in reverse and you should be back on the water.

Thanks Darkcalling. I appreciate it. Too bad I just found out that the heat index is going to be 105-115 today in MD. So working on the boat is gonna suck. But I guess that's what cold beer and water is for.

Cheers

Might want to replace the belts while your in there if you haven't changed them in a while.

Well, I finally had a chance to get into replacing the alternator yesterday and found good news and bad news. The good news is that the alternator is fine, it's just the belt that was chewed up and some of the rubber fell onto the alternator which caused it to smoke, which lead me to belive that the alternator was bad.

The bad news, is that I need to jack up the motor and remove the motor mount to install the belt. What a PIDA.
