Has anyone taken apart their throttle control to fix trim switch?
 

My trim switch on the throttle control just stopped working. I have tried to chase the wire back to the solenoid and it seems like everything is ok. My trim switch on the swim platform works just fine, so that tells me that the problem is either in the wire run from the throttle control to the solenoid, or in the throttle control itself. I was reluctant to take the throttle apart to get to the switch and wires. Has anyone done this? Anything to watch out for? Do I have to remove the throttle cables to get to the wires and switch?

Have you done a site search for "Trim Switch" ?? There are 3-4 threads discussing that very topic.

I have tried to search and I found a few threads that discuss the trim sending units on the gimbal housing, but I haven't found a thread yet that discusses taking the throttle control apart. I will search again....maybe I missed it somewhere.

but just in case you decide to take apart your throttle control assembly and assuming you have a Quiksilver 3000 Commander unit (like most of us), here's a cut & paste from another site on how to get the throttle arm off.....ignore the parts pricing though as the post is a few years old.

There is no lip or flange surrounding the radius of the button but it does have about a three inch shaft extending from the inside center of the button. It's the end of this shaft that fits VERY snugly into the cable box holding it in place.http://forums.iboats.com/clear.gifhttp://forums.iboats.com/clear.gifPull the throttle back (reverse) about 1/4 to 1/2 way. The key to getting the neutral button out is applying equal amounts of pulling pressure on opposite sides of the button. Two small flatblade screwdrivers across from each other should work fine. Once the button is out use an 18mm deepwell socket to remove the bolt holding the throttle arm on. Now the arm should come off rather easily.http://forums.iboats.com/clear.gifhttp://forums.iboats.com/clear.gifI expected to have to replace the entire trim switch assembly, a $42 part at www.mercurypartsexpress.com However, I diagnosed the problem as not being a faulty switch but a break inside the purple wire. Apparently there wasn't enough slack left in the wires and years of slamming into wide open throttle to pull up a skier took its toll. Thanks mikeyt! I just finished pulling the throttle and everything seemed intact so I crawled down into the engine and it turned out to be a little tiny corrosion spot on one of the barrel connectors. Geez! Oh well, at least it is fixed! Thanks for the help.

I have the same issue on my 250 let me know what you find as I have not researched yet and use the trailer up function because the trim button down still works
