Anyone know what this is?

We got Shabah out of hibernation FINALLY! She started up pretty easily, the buzzer/beeper comes on as normal when you turn the key, but once the engine is started, it changes tone a little bit, and stays on even after the engine is running. :(Anyone know what this might be?
It's a 2000 4.3 Mercruiser. Thanks for your helpe!

Re: Anyone know what this is?

It may be changing tone just from voltage difference from the engine on vs. engine off. The alarm though is likely from either of the 3reasons for the alarm, Engine heat(obviously not overheating, but could be a bad sensor) Engine Oil Pressure or sensor, or the most likely culprit the outdrive fluid level. I would check that first.

Hope this helps, Im sure you will find it.

Thanks Zack, I did notice that the drive fluid level bottle was low, I'm going to top that off and see if that fixes it. When I put it away last fall it was fine, this just came about by sitting over the winter? weird.

What he said

I would monitor your outdrive fluid level closely for the next month or two just in case there is a leak somewhere.

Did you have the outdrive serviced when it was winterized? If they changed the gear lube, chances are there were some voids that got filled in from oil in the reservoir, which is why that's now low.

I winterized it myself, I had a 3.0 Mercruiser before and always winterized it myself, but that engine didn't have a drive fluid reseviror. I topped it off and the alarm has went off:wink_thumbup: so all is good.

Purple_Shabah,

When I refill my outdrive, I have someone watch the reservoir level while I am filling the drive (after I have installed the upper plug when the gear lube reaches that point). When the reservoir level comes close to the cold fill mark, I install the lower plug in the outdrive. Then I top up the reservoir slightly. Works great. You can do it on your own, but your need to keep checking the reservoir level once you have insalled the top plug.
