Winterization Question 3.0LX Mercruiser

Hi guys,
Its that time of year again. My question to all, being a first time inboard/outboard owner, is does anyone know how many DRAIN plugs are on a 1992 Mercruiser 3.0L LX 4 cylinder engine.

I found one on the block right under 1 on the bottom of the exhaust manifold. The seloc manual i have is not very clear. Thus I know of 2 drain plugs and am wondering if there may be any i may be missing.

Thanks,

Juno :)

Thanks guys.:wink_thumbup:

Re: Winterization Question 3.0LX Mercruiser

I just saw an '89 mercruiser 3.0. It had two drain plugs: 1 quick drain on the block (port side, slightly above oil pan) and 1 removable bolt on the exhaust manifold (underneath, 3/4 back).

Hope this helps.

Ok great thanks Mikeyt.

From the research that I have done so far I have only noted two drain plugs. I did read something that said there may be a drain plug on top of the elbow of the exhaust manifold. Not sure if this makes sense but I am going to have a look at mine and see if in fact there is a plug there.

Thats what I kinda remember on my old 3.0. The main one then a tiny brass plug somewhere on the manifold.

Hey guys, I wanted to provide you with this information. I found a phone number for Mercruiser tech support and I called them and they were extremely helpful. So for those who are are looking for a 2nd opinion the number is 405-743-6566. All you do is give them the serial number off of your merc and they can pull all the info on it. They also went as far as sending me their winterization procedure in an email.

My 1992 3.0lx has 2 drain plugs, one on the manifold and the other directly under it on the block. :)
