Alpha One and Gear lube

I had to change the gear lube on my 1994 Davant(5.o lx alpha one)i. The orginal gear lube is cream and not mercury. Can I mix the two?Ii've purchased mercury gear lube already and have no idea what the other brand is. I can clean out the reservoir but can't think of a good way to flush this out of the internal parts. Any info would be awesome thanks.

Gear lube is "cream"? Do you mean milky?

If so, you have water in the outdrive lube and need to get that out of there right away. I would clean the reservoir and refill with correct lube too. Make sure you have drained the existing lube from the outdrive by leaving both of the plugs out for a couple of hours. Refill the outdrive with correct lube per instructions and check condition of lube after your next outing. If milky again, you need to get the outdrive resealed by a Mercruiser mechanic. Do not mess around with this issue as you could destroy the outdrive by running it with contaminated lube.
