Hour Meter Suggestions?

The 1994 182 Barchetta we just purchased just had a re-built Mercruiser 4.3L V6 (4 bbl.) installed, due to the original engine having a cracked block. So we effectively have a brand new, zero-hours engine. I would like to install an hour meter somewhere in the engine space. Any recommendations for a simple, inexpensive hour meter suitable for marine use, and where to hack it in, electrically?

I am particularly interested, so I can keep track of the 10- and 20-hour run-time points, for break-in.

Thanks,
Jim

I think I solved this one on my own :). Only time will tell. Bought a Hardline Products hour meter at the nearby West Marine today. Installation couldn't be easier. After we're actually able to, you know, use the boat, come Tuesday, I'll know how accurate it is, and I'll let y'all know.

Verdict: It looks like a good product. I neglected to log exact times, but we left the slip at about 16:30, returned about 19:00, and spent about 10 minutes stopped at a small island. Hour meter read 2.5 hours of run-time :).

Maybe someday I'll remember to note exact times :p

Hi I am trying to wire in an hour meter on an 2004 SX19. I thought I could just wire it into the key switch but there are only three wires there. Any suggestions?

Wire it to the tach.
Negative on Black wire post , Positive on Purple wire post(I believe that is the correct color).
You need a negative and a keyed , or better yet running positive tap. :) That way you get true engine runtime.
