how to break in new engine?
 
hi i have a jasper reman. 5.7L 350. any ideas on how to break it in right? i heard break it in on how your going to use it. or, go easy on all diff rpms for a while. or just dont hammer it. i have heard it all. can i get a real answer. i have been just running it at all different rpms for about 5 mins a pop, 2500 then 3000 then 3200, 3400,3800 and so on. please help

Hi difran25,

Since you have a Jasper motor, I decided to contact them directly and this is what a Jasper technician named Keith told me:

"All Jasper motors are tested via live-run to seat the cam, rings, bearing, etc..., therefore, they're already broken-in. Run your motor as you would your old one but after 10 hours of run time, change the oil to remove any material from the initial runs."

So there you have it straight from Jasper via me of course... :rolleyes:

Just an added note, as with the Merc Manual, allow the motor to get up to operating temperature before running her around and to check the oil frequently during this time.

Now get out on the water and have fun! :wink_thumbup:
