I didn't winterize correctly and now I have a cracked block and a crack foot (lower unit)! I have a 2000 Mariah Jubilee with a 5.0 Mercrusiser... Should I call it quits or is there a way to fund a used motor and pay someone to put it in?[emoji24] [emoji23]

The last owner on mine didn't winterize mine right either. Had a 5.0 in it and a cracked block. Cost me 4000 for a new motor. I put a 5.7 in it. Was the same price as the 5.0 and the 5.7 is a way better motor.

Agreed. If you are going to repair or replace, now is a good time to upgrade to a 5.7. Basically the same fuel economy with more HP.

Thank you Rainman and MikeyT.... I was wondering about that. So did you get a rebuilt 5.7 or a brand new engine? Did you get it from a Mercruiser dealer or find one on-line?

I had a cracked block on my new boat last year (2014) and I found a used 1996 5.7 complete engine (443 hrs) with enclosed heat exchager system. This system is replacing my old block with no heat exchanger and dated 1992. I don't know why your outdrive got cracked when the water runs out anyway? My new installation has blue drain plugs on the exhaust manifolds and exchanger near bottom of engine suction side of lower unit. If I drain the locations and run the areas dry I should not have any issues. My block is antifreezed and I have aluminum exhaust manifolds to prevent rust internally. I got my engine from Craigslist out of Washington State and I live in Alaska. :-)

So did you find a used engine to replace the old one? My 5.7 engine cost me $2500, and I installed it and repaired all that needed fixing. :-)

We are wanting to winterize our 98 jubilee ourselves since we are not satisfied with our current boat mechanic. Is there a guide somewhere on the correct procedure?

Long block is $2100. New/reman.
Another option is a junkyard motor. It's a Chevy 305. I can get a price from my local boat wreaking yard for you
