Engine oil type for merc 7.4?
 

What is the proper grade engine oil for a '96 merc 7.4. Have heard different recommendations like 30w, 40w, and even rotella diesel truck oil.

Oil & Gear lube capacities & Std wiring colours

15/40 is the recommended weight. Brand? I use Mobil 1 but that's just my preference.

Thanks moto. Called the dealer and they recommended sae40 so i went with that

I use 10-40 Royal Purple synthetic in my 7.4

My 1996 5.7 Merc requires Quick Silver 20-50 by manufacturer so I expect yours would be the same?
