May part out
I haven't decided yet but I have a 2001 z202. Everything works great except compass locks in place after its stated and the 5.0 engine I blow yesterday. I was wondering if I'd be better off parting it out or fixing the boat. It looks really great no tears in the seats and hardly any fading.
What should I expect from parting it out? |
Re: May part out
If its as good as you say it is then i would consider fixing that 5.0 motor.

May part out
The engine's not that expensive. Fix it and maybe bump it up the a 5.7.

Re: May part out
Thanks for your advice. Would a 5.7 plug and play or are there modifications?
Anyone out there have a damage boat with a motor to sell? |
May part out
I believe it's plug and play if you're going from a carbureted engine to another carbureted engine. A carb to injected swap would require the hardware to run the injectors.

Re: May part out
Dozer is correct.:wink_thumbup: The 5.7 is the same block and runs the same ignition system as the 5.0.
Going MPI is a whole other thing. Wiring Harness ECM Intake Throttle Body Various Sensors Fuel Pump All have to be changed. The list goes on and on. Big money for a little more HP:( |
Re: May part out
What is the advantage to a 5.7 from 5.0? Is the a big price difference between the two?
Uses same out board? |
Re: May part out
More hp, easy interchange and only a slight price difference. Makes good sense to do the upgrade and its a lot easier to sell a good boat with a good engine if that's what you decide to do.

Re: May part out
More Power for the buck. :) Plus they weight the same.
Yes, they both run the same outdrive gear ratio. Cost difference is minimal.........couple hundred if that for the 5.7 long block. |

Here is what it looks like now. Not to mention the 5 gallons of water out of the block I drained. also the 5 gallons of wiped up oil and water coming out the drain plug.
I can only hope a shot gasket but I have to say I'm sure its a cracked block do to poor winter storage I'm thinking. |
